The history of Van der Helm Transport Group goes back to the year 1936, when it sold sand with a transport bicycle. Only many years later the company rented premises in Delft for storage and for putting up 4 trucks. When Mr. G.C. van der Helm died because of a fatal accident, his son, Mr. A.G. van der Helm and daughter-in-law took over the company. The company flourished and in 1971 it bought land for its own premises of 600 m2. The growth continued and in 1974 the company bought other premises (in total 500 m2) in Delft and rented sheds in the region. In the meanwhile the type of goods for transport, but also storage and processing changed drastically. Besides mixed cargo the company also stored and transported bulk goods. Both the number of own trucks and its personnel increased. New premises were needed, which were opened in Den Hoorn in 1982, after which another shed was bought in Delft in 1988. In order to offer even more than only road transport to the clients, Frans Kruis B.V. was taken over in 1996. Now Van der Helm Transport Group could also offer shipments, as a result of which the market expanded. In the same year the brothers Gerard van der Helm and Richard van der Helm also joined the company. In 1998 they added air freight to their range of services, by working together with freight shipping agent Unique Logistics Amsterdam B.V., the current O.T.X. Logistics B.V. In the same year the markets for road transport and shipping were also expanded because the company also took over Dijfo Rotterdam B.V. | Hudig Freight Services Hudig Freight Services has a great history that goes back to 1795, when Mr. John Hudig and his brother-in-law founded Hudig & Blokhuyzen BV. In the beginning of 1860 Hudig and the family Veder started the company Hudig & Veder. In early 1900 this company began to grow and develop a wide range of activities, such as shipping, travelling and loading. Various take-overs, as well as the start of warehousing activities gave an impulse to the shipping activities in the 20th century. Under the name Hudig Freight Services the success continued and the company became an internationally renowned shipping business. Not many companies have built up so much know and expertise over such a long time (centuries!). Presently In 2007 Van der Helm Transport Group took over Hudig Freight Services. As a result the market for both companies increased. New premises were built in Moerdijk at the time of the take-over. It had a shed space of 40,000 m2, which has been in use since 2008. From the three branches in Moerdijk, Rotterdam and Hoofddorp we offer strong logistical services to the submarkets of textile, consumer retail and raw materials. Because of the introduction our new company structure in 2009, we are fully confident that we can continue with our work for a very long time. |
